In Zuni tradition Turtles have a rain association and serve as links to the ancestors. In ancient days turtle, or Edo:wa in Zuni, appeared as jewelry. Andrew Quam's watery abalone and gold lip mother-of-pearl shell turtle has a handsomely incised carapace inlaid with turquoise and coral pieces. Etched claws are darkened with jet paste. A colorful coral-eyed reptile measuring approximately 1 1/2" long, 1 1/4" wide and 1/2" tall. You can volunteer with a local conservation project to help preserve turtles in your area.
