Pine Marten

An old-growth pine forest in northern New Mexico is home to the pine marten or Pacific marten, an elusive woodland creature. They are considered an indicator species because their presence conveys the overall health of the forest. Gilbert Lonjose's territorial pine marten with turquoise inlaid eyes spots the perfect tree hollow to build a cozy winter nest in. Sculpted from pink marble with quartz inclusions, this sweet solitary mammal measures approximately 1 1/2" long, 7/8" wide and 2" tall.
