Zuni artist Donovan Laiwakete is one of six brothers, almost all are carvers. His dynamic animals are exquisitely inlaid with heartlines often in multiples. A heartline represents the breath path starting at the mouth leading to the heart region. Carved from a wheaten-hued fossil stone, a Medicine-Bear is meticulously inlaid with a chrysocolla, granite, turquoise, pipestone and apple coral heartline in a striking colorful mosaic. A discerning spirit is from turquoise eyes. About 2 3/8" long, 3/8" wide and 2 1/2" tall.
