Rhyolite deposits can be found near active or extinct volcanoes. Daryl Shack, Sr.'s Bison has been smoothly carved from rhyolite to a size of about 2" long, 7/8" wide and 1 5/8" tall. Eyes are from cultured opal inlays, while turquoise horns are as blue as a Zuni sky. Not only is Daryl a wonderful carver of animals but he's an accomplished painter depicting many scenes of daily Zuni life in colorful acrylics.
