Katsinas are fundamental to Hopi Pueblo spiritual beliefs. They are called tithu or katsintithu, sacred powerful beings who bring lessons and blessings to maintain harmony. The "Hopi Chipmunk" katsina doll by Alvin Leon is a small-scale original carving from cottonwood intricately decorated with colorful acrylic paints, feathers, leather, yucca, yarn and pipe cleaner. The collectible woodwork including base measures roughly 4 1/4" tall, 2 1/2" wide and 1 7/8" deep. Signed by the artist.
