In prehistoric times, fallen water-soaked wood underwent extreme compression and degradation after being covered by thick layers of sediment. Over deep time, water and gases were squeezed out of the wood to become a compact material absorbing oils from surrounding shale to eventually become jet, which is fossilized coal. Mike Tucson's dignified Raven (or crow) is carved and detailed from rich jet to a perched dimension of about 2 1/4" tall, 1 1/4" wide and 1 1/4" deep. Eyes from turquoise inlays perceive the heart of the matter.
