The ancient Egyptians treasured lapis lazuli believing it lead the soul into immortality and opened the heart to love. The vibrant color acted as a shield of protection in the battlefield too. They ground down lapis as a pigment for painting and decorating their world. Andres Lementino's strong Bear with turquoise eyes set to a slightly turned head, has been sculpted from lapis lazuli and inlaid with a beautifully contrasting sky blue turquoise heartline or breath path. Patches of calcite remind us of fluffy clouds that occasionally inhabit the vast skies of Zuni. About 2 3/8" long, 3/4" wide and 1 1/4" tall.
