In Zuni belief, Turtles have a rain association and serve as links to the Zuni ancestors. In prehistoric times, turtle or Edo:wa appeared as jewelry. Andrew Quam's layered Picasso marble, sky blue turquoise and cowry shell turtle is presented in pendant form. Including the sterling silver bale fixture, this red coral-eyed reptile is about 1 1/2" long, 1 1/8" wide and 1/2" tall. A pleasingly incised carapace has been inlaid with red coral and turquoise pieces. Etched claws are filled with pipestone paste.
