Cactus Button or flowering peyote is a spineless cactus of the genus Lophophora. Its compounds have been used in both traditional medicine and in spiritual ways for Indigenous cultures around and in North America. Peyote buttons found in archeological digs along the Rio Grande in Texas and Mexico revealed through radiocarbon dating that Indigenous groups have utilized the sacred medicine for thousands of years. Abraham Peina's colorful cactus button pendant has twisting silver rope elements that surround a carved Royston turquoise flower whose center is accented with a luscious ruby cabochon. The reticulated sterling silver bale is overlaid with a hand-cut design element. Including the lovely bale, measurements of this extraordinary pendant are about 2 1/4" long and 1 1/4" wide. Signed by the artist.
