Hand-carved from traditional cottonwood and hand-painted with lively acrylic paints, a Sunface katsina is exquisitely detailed by Hopi artist Virgil Long in an approximate 12 1/4" tall, 3 3/4" wide and 2 5/8" deep woodwork. In Hopi ways, a Sunface represents the honored sun because without it life on Earth wouldn't exist. The sun drives the seasons and weather, blessing the pueblo's landscape with cloud cover and falling snow. A flute-playing figure sometimes called Kokopelli plays sacred songs. Signed by the artist.
