Terry Wilson, Dine-Zuni

I am self-taught; I started with cottonwood through experimentation. I went on to work with stone. My inspirations are netsuke, Da Vinci, Picasso, the Cheama brothers, and most of all my son Jacob. My appreciation for other cultures has helped me create unique pieces. I love working with natural stone. The beauty of nature is in a finished piece.

Tae Kwon Do and wildlife photography have prepared me for what’s ahead of me in life. Wildlife photography has influenced me to carve animals and respect wildlife and nature. Tae Kwon Do is not just self defense; it cultivates will power and self confidence through a combination of physical and mental conditioning. Carpentry has taught me to look at things in 3 dimensions, going from blueprints to a finished house. I started as a laborer and worked my way up to building custom homes. Just like in life you start from the bottom and work your way up.

I have one blue ribbon from Museum of Northern Arizona, July 2006. I’m looking forward to receiving more from future art shows. I have confidence in myself that I will make it to the top.

As an artist, being strong and a positive role model for my son and the next generation is everything, spiritually and mentally. Have faith in thyself. You can overcome any obstacle that life has to offer. I will continue to challenge my talents to further myself in the art world.

In this, thanks to all the positive people that have influenced my life in the art world. Thank you.
