Olla maidens are a traditional group of Zuni women who balance actual pottery jars on the top of their heads while dancing. Freddie Leekya's olla maiden with pen shell eyes, is carved from Zuni travertine, a variety that is found in the Zuni area. She stands gracefully at 3 7/8" tall, 1 3/4" wide and 1 3/4" deep. A turquoise and red coral necklace adorns her, as do many turquoise and pink mussel shell inlays.
