Maxx Laate started carving in 1987 with a pocket knife. His brother Pernell Laate (d) helped him with ideas. Together they learned the art and referred to magazines, wildlife postcards and books to get an idea of how an animal might act in its environment.

Maxx has truly captured the fearlessness of a charismatic and ground dwelling roadrunner in a large piece of antler. Textured legs and "x" shaped feet grasp, while an etched body with lovely plumage displays a sense of rapid movement. Stunning turquoise inlays adorn a crested head with an open beak and eyes are from inlaid jet. Incredibly, roadrunners are fast and tough enough to take out a rattlesnake. A gorgeously striking size at approximately 10" tall, 2" wide and 11 3/4" long. Signed by the artist. Extra shipping charges may apply.
