By Robin's Collection

Animal: Turtle, Material: Serpentine
This offering is sold.

This Turtle is carrying special blessings with all those dragonflies on its back. For Zunis, Dragonfly carries the prayers to Spirit World and many prayers are for water, in the form of rain and snow. Turtle carries its burden peacefully. Rhoda Quam was the daughter of Annie Gasper Quam(d), sister of Lynn Quam, and niece of Ellen Quandelacy(d). She carved this turtle from a pretty piece of serpentine, then inlaid a large turquoise dragonfly on the back and incised six small dragonflies around the turtle’s shell. It is rare to see one of Rhoda’s carvings these days, as she passed away In 2002. A beautiful and meaningful piece; measuring about 2" long by1 1/2" wide.
