By Andrew Quam

Animal: Turtle, Material: Serpentine
This offering is sold.
Turtles move with ease between terrestrial and aquatic places. In Zuni Pueblo tradition they have a rain association and in prehistoric times appeared as jewelry. Turtle shells are prized for making rattles used by the Rain Dancers. Andrew Quam's approximately 1 1/8" long and 7/8" wide wonderful fetish earrings are carved from the cheeriest of serpentines with lively turquoise pieces evenly set into cleanly etched carapaces. Andrew's mother Rosalia Quam (d) made lovely strung bird fetishes, plus horse, frog and owl carvings.
