A wonderful pair of turquoise Turtle fetish earrings are a great example of Andrew Quam's strengths as a carver and fetish jewelry maker. He is from the greater Johnny Quam (d), Andrew Emerson Quam (d) and Bossie Quam (d) family of recognized Zuni Pueblo artists. Andrew's mother was Rosalia Quam (d) who learned the art from her step-father George Cheechee Haloo (d). She was well-known for stringing bird fetishes and also for her wonderful horse, frog and owl carvings. Rosalia and her husband Andrew Emerson Quam taught their children, including Andrew.
Easy to wear, these lovely reptile fetish earrings have sweet character and gorgeously etched carapaces, that are inlaid with pretty red coral pieces, including the eyes. They dangle at a happy 1 1/2" long including hooks, and are 3/4" wide.
