Animal: Owl, Material: Covellite
This offering is sold.
At Zuni Pueblo an Owl is called the Night Grandfather perhaps because like a wise elder, an owl uses knowledge and good judgment seeing what others cannot. Brian Yatsattie's raptor studies the night's sky. This nightscape is reflected in the magical metallic-like blue hues of the Covellite. Italian mineralogist Niccolo Covelli verified this natural material he found at Mount Vesuvius, Italy in 1832. It's been discovered in the state of Montana as well. Masterfully sculpted in a beautiful posture measurements are about 2 3/4" long, 1" wide and 2 1/4" tall.
