Indigenous Peoples of North America like those of the Anishinaabe and the Haudenosaunee, use the back of a turtle's shell as a lunar calendar. Most turtle's shells have 13 large scutes like the 13 phases of the moon and changing seasons. If you count the smaller scutes that circle the shell you'll find 28, just like the 28 days between full moons. How amazing is that? Celebrate the wondrous design of a turtle's shell in Jonas Hustito's darling Turtle sculpted from a handsome serpentine. A domed carapace has a beautifully etched design. Eyes are sweet from turquoise inlays. About 3" long, 1 3/4" wide and 1 1/4" tall.
