Derrick Kaamasee comes from the extended Laate family of noted Zuni Pueblo artists. He started carving in the late 1980's, inspiring other family members to do so. His brother is artist Elton Kaamasee and his uncle is Maxx Laate, who taught Derrick the art form. Full of character and charm, Derrick's approximate 3/4" tall, 3/4" wide and 7/8" deep fossilized ivory Frog
is inlaid with many a turquoise spots and has great webbed feet. A contented, coral-eyed face holds a mouthful, as though an insect meal was just swallowed.
