Animal: Bat, Material: Gold Lip Mother-Of-Pearl Shell
This offering is sold.
Long ago, the late autumn season saw a Celtic harvest called Samhain which involved lighting nighttime bonfires. The bright firelight attracted insects that in turn, Bats would feed on. Some speculate this is how bats became associated with holidays like Halloween. Bats are beneficial and consume mass quantities of deadly mosquitos. Brian Yatsattie's glorious gold lip mother-of-pearl shell bat has the most detailed webbed wings and eyes from coral. The underside is equally beautiful. About 6 1/2" wide, 1 7/8" long and 3/4" tall.
