A member of the extended Laate family, Esteban Najera is a superb carver. This piece carved of antler features two swirling columns of Bats emerging from their daytime hiding place in anticipation of the coming feast of insects. Esteban's talents are on full display in the enormous amount of details packed into each bat and onto every surface of the piece which all comes together looking like beautifully delicate lacework. Each bat has a pair of inlaid jet eyes and incised details that bring the bats to life. The piece measures about 10" tall and is about 7" wide at the top tapering down to about 3 1/2" wide at the base.
A mighty fine jet Bat carved by Rochelle Quam, ready to fly away into the night, seeing through eyes of shiny inlaid silver. She's incised nice wing and furry body detail. Times of transition can bring fear but remembering that bat sleeps hanging upside down gives us new perspective. About 1 5/8" tall and 1 3/4" long.
